Religion
This week in religion, we learned all about the Saint of the Month, St. Francis of Assisi! Did you know that Francis wasn't his original name? His mother named Giovanni while his father was away, but when his father returned from France, he decided that Francis was a better name for him! How neat! Next month, we will get to teach the rest of the school about our patron saint, Saint Cecilia! |

In reading, we've been working on using reading strategies used by good readers, including inferring and making connections. This week, we focused on rereading for understanding. We've been practicing THINKING while reading to make sure that we're understanding what we're reading. We also started a new novel, The City of Ember, one of my favorite read alouds of the year! | The students are doing an awesome job in spelling! They are learning their words, working together to practice, and doing a nice job with all of the quirky routines that go along with our spelling class. This week's pattern was long e sounds. |
Language
We kicked off our week with our first writing celebration! The kids shared their first books, gave feedback to one another, and shared in refreshments to celebrate their good writing. I'm so happy to see how excited the kids are about their writing, and to see the quality of work that they are doing! |

The fourth graders will begin looking at the regions, starting with out own, the Midwest. We'll also learn about the Michigan History Day projects that the students will be working on this year!
