Here's a quick update on what we're doing in each class.
Religion
We also got the chance to learn about St. Vincent de Paul, the patron saint for the 5th grade class! We learned that St. Vincent de Paul was from France and tutored the royal children. He was born poor and became a priest to help his family financially. One of the most interesting facts was that he met St. Francis de Sales in Paris!

Spelling
We just wrapped up our first spelling unit and I was really impressed with how well the students fell into the routine. On Monday, the students were pretested and assigned the regular or challenge list. We spent Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday practicing the words with partners, and took the test for the week today. The kids seemed to enjoy the spelling set up, so hopefully we'll keep motivated! I also introduced the students to Spelling City. If you did not see the instructions on the bottom of the spelling homework, your child can practice their words online by visiting spellingcity.com. There are a lot of fun games and activities for the kids to try. |

Math
ScienceIn science, the students completed their first lesson, complete with learning stations. To kick off the lesson, the students were able to go outside and observe real living things! The students took turns visiting the six science stations throughout the week, learning about the needs of living things at each stop. This is such a nice setup for science and I think that now that the students have gone through a week of these types of lessons, the next one will be much quicker. |
Social Studies
This week's highlight for social studies is probably our second mystery Skype! This time, the students were visiting with a college professor and were able to guess her location in JUST FIVE questions! I was really impressed! They were also a little jealous to find out that she was in sunny, beautiful Florida. (We've also been working hard on our map skills!) Our first Mystery Skype was also featured in the Manistique Pioneer Tribune and the Daily Press for 9/12, so you might want to pick up a copy to check it out! |
