ReligionIn religion, the third graders are learning about how Jesus' greatest teaching was the way in which he lived and that we can show our love for Jesus in the way that we live. The fourth graders are learning about the Beatitudes and how Jesus taught the Beatitudes as a way to true happiness. LanguageAll of the writing conferences are done, so now the students are working to complete their books. About half of them are finished and on the shelf, just waiting for our writing celebration! It looks like we will be done by next Friday, so I am going to plan on having our writing celebration on Monday, October 13 at 12:15 (right after lunch). We would love for you to join us if you have a chance. I'll also be recording the book presentations, so if you can't make it, the videos will be available on the class website. |
ReadingThis week we are working on using the skills used by good readers. The first was making connections, which the students are GREAT at doing, especially Kody! They have been working to make connections to their own lives, as well as to movies, books, TV shows, or other aspects of their lives. The third graders also shared their book reports, which were all really great! The October book report will be going home on Monday. | SpellingThis week in spelling we started working on the long A vowel pattern. We'll be doing another week of long a next week. |
Social Studies
Science
In science this week, the students learned about how plants and animals defend themselves in their environments and how they use their structures to help them get what they need. The students completed six science stations as well as their first blog post of the year! If you would like to see the blogs, visit the student blog page. You will need a viewing password, which your child should know, but if they forgot, let me know and I can get that to you. We also took part in a live virtual field trip to the Alcoa plant in Davenport, Iowa for Manufacturing Day. We learned about how aluminum is mined and processed, as well as how it is turned into objects like airplanes and pop cans. One of the most interesting facts was that most of the aluminum ever mined is still being used because of how well aluminum recycles! |
